The Historic Houses Foundation (then Heritage Conservation Trust) funded the restoration of Pieter Casteels (1684-1749) ‘Tulips, Carnations and Other Flowers in a Vase on a Plinth’ at Dorney Court.
The painting hangs in the dining room and was dirty and covered with a yellow varnish. It also had some surface unevenness and was buckling in the lower left corner, where it needed to be properly stretched on to a stretcher. The surface also suffered from some wrinkling of the paint, which improved when it was relined.
The work was undertaken by conservator Annabel Terry-Engell.
