New Trustee: Dr Amy Boyington
The Historic Houses Foundation is pleased to welcome Dr Amy Boyington as a new trustee. She has impressive heritage credentials but the HHF particularly values her skills as an expert commentator on radio and TV, and her original content on social media on historical subjects.
Amy grew up in mid-Wales and remembers how a visit to Powis Castle sparked her interest in the people who once lived in historic houses. She dodged a career in law to pursue an academic training in historic buildings, gaining practical experience at Holkham Hall, Goodwood House and Woburn Abbey along the way. She has a strong belief that historic buildings give us tangible evidence of how humans have adapted, innovated, and expressed themselves over time, holding lessons in sustainability, resilience, and design that are still relevant today. “They give communities a unique sense of character and continuity while restoration can be more sustainable than new construction and heritage tourism boosts local economies.”
She is a former director of the Lutyens Trust and has worked with English Heritage, the National Trust, Historic Royal Palaces and the Georgian Group but is probably best known for her popular book ‘Hidden Patrons: Women and Architectural Patronage in Georgian Britain’ which was shortlisted for Architectural Book of the Year.
"Amy brings practical experience of research and skills as a curator and in public engagement.” says Jeremy Musson, Chair of the Historic Houses Foundation. “We think her enthusiasm will be a tremendous asset as we continue to expand our impact at a pivotal time as the HHF looks to grow its activities and strengthen its support.”
