The Historic Houses Foundation plugs an important funding gap as the only funder to prioritise the preservation of historic country houses and
related buildings.
Without our support, essential repairs will not be undertaken, putting the future of important historic buildings at risk. Many responsible charitable and individual owners are simply unable to cover all the costs of works on complex historic buildings.
Applications always outnumber our ability to help and demand grows every year as time, environmental damage and the rising costs of conservation and repair take their toll. Legacies and donations are vital, to help us do more – to help more owners and to conserve more important and beautiful places.

Match Funding Campaign
We need urgently to increase our endowment so we can give more and bigger grants over a wider area. A generous donor has offered a gift of £5 million if this sum can be matched by other donors. This offer is time-limited and we need to secure the matching funds.
Can you help us unlock £5m and support the historic houses of England and Wales with a contribution towards the match-fund target?
All funds raised will be added to the Foundation’s endowment, from which trustees currently take only 4% per year for administrative and grant-making purposes, keeping administration costs to a minimum.
