Heritage Alliance

Established in 2002, the Heritage Alliance is England’s largest coalition of heritage interests, bringing together over 200 independent organisations.

The Country Houses Foundation has sponsored the production of the Alliance’s fortnightly online newsletter Heritage Update for the past decade, helping to promote the Alliance’s work and maintain its vital network.

The Heritage Alliance works to champion the needs, aspirations, and achievements of its members and the wider heritage sector – influencing policy and legislation, bringing diverse groups together, and helping heritage practitioners to innovate and grow. Their vision is for a society in which England’s historic environment and wider cultural heritage is valued, supported and able to enrich everyone’s lives.

Members range from large institutions - English Heritage, the National Trust, the Canal & River Trust, Historic Houses - to specialist charities, local museums, and community initiatives. In turn, their members represent over 8 million passionate volunteers, trustees and staff in heritage organisations nationwide.

Heritage Update is a fortnightly newsletter and heritage sector digest, plays an important part in promoting the Alliance’s work, publicising its annual Heritage Day and regular Heritage Debates and providing a platform for members. It currently reaches over 18,000 worldwide subscribers.

Each issue shares key news, jobs, consultations, events and courses for anyone working in, or with an interest in, the heritage sector. The Country Houses Foundation’s regular grant ensures the Heritage Alliance can continue to be a confident advocate for the heritage sector.
